Global Patient Partnership Summit 2023に参加しました (Insights from Global Patient Partnership Summit 2023)

5月22日～24日にシンガポールで開催された、ベーリンガーインゲルハイム主催のGlobal Patient Partnership Summit 2023に、代表理事の宿野部武志と、CFOの宿野部香緒里が参加しました。たくさんの貴重な繋がりと学びを得られたワークショップ、その様子を報告します。

n本サミットは、慢性疾患をもちながら生きる人々の総合的な療養環境改善のため、ベーリンガーインゲルハイムと患者団体が協働して解決策を創出するために開催されたものです。日本からは他に8名の当事者、支援者が参加し、計10か国50名超の当事者、支援者、ベーリンガーインゲルハイム社員らが参加しました。サミットはシンガポールのほかに、ウィーン、マイアミでも同時開催されました。

nサミットの中で開催されたワークショップでは、病気をもつ人の意思決定支援、複数の疾患と生きる方に対する支援、統合医療などといった疾患横断的な課題に対し、グループに分かれて真に実現可能な解決策を考えました。このワークショップを通して、国や地域、文化が異なる中でも、大切にしている想いが共通していることを感じました。
n共通していると感じたことの1つは、今回この場にいることができなかった人たちへの想い。即ち、病気になり不安と絶望に打ちひしがれている人たちのことを大切に想っていたことです。よく耳にする「病気と向き合おう」等という言葉に傷ついている、そのような状況にいる人たちの為に何が出来るのかを真剣に考え、共にアイデアをまとめていけたことがとても嬉しく思えました。まとめたアイデアはグループごとに発表し、そして私たちのグループがまとめたアイデアは各国の方々からも高い評価をいただきました。

nもちろん私たちがまとめたアイデアに対しての指摘や課題はたくさんありましたが、このアイデアやソリューションを皆で考え、創出できたその事が何より重要だと思っています。

nワークショップ終了後にはネットワーキングの時間があり、海外の患者会コミュニティの方々と繋がり食事も共にしました。こうした海外で開催されるワークショップは、言語の障壁もあり、心理的、物理的にも当事者が参加するのはハードルが高いのは事実です。しかし、当事者として活動し、その熱量さえあれば、違う文化圏で同じように活動する仲間と繋がり、想いを語り合うことは、思っているほど難しいことではありません。

n今回のサミットへの参加では、一言では言い表せない程の多くの刺激・学び・繋がりの機会をいただきました。肝心なのはいかにこの機会を今後に活かすかだと思っています。本イベントで生み出されたアイデアや繋がりを、今後のピーペックの活動でもしっかりと活用していきたいと考えています。

nI, Takeshi Shukunobe, CEO of PPeCC, along with Kaori Shukunobe, CFO, participated in the Global Patient Partnership Summit 2023 hosted by Boehringer Ingelheim in Singapore from May 22 to 24. I would like to report on the highlights of the workshop, where we made valuable connections and learned a lot.

nThis summit was organized by Boehringer Ingelheim in collaboration with patient organizations to create solutions for comprehensive care improvements for people living with chronic illnesses. Eight other participants and supporters from Japan attended the summit, bringing the total number of participants to over fifty people from ten countries, including people living with condition, supporters, and Boehringer Ingelheim employees. In addition to Singapore, the Summit was held simultaneously in Vienna and Miami.

nDuring the Summit, participants were divided into groups to brainstorm practical solutions for cross-disease challenges such as decision-making support, peer support, or integrated healthcare. Through these workshops, we all share the same important thoughts and ideas, even though we are from different countries, regions, and cultures.
nOne of the things we had in common was our concern for those who were not able to be “here”. That is, they cared about people who are struggling with illnesses and are dealing with anxiety and despair. We presented our ideas to each group, and our group's ideas were highly evaluated by the participants.

nOf course, there were numerous issues and suggestions about our ideas, but the most crucial aspect was that we were able to think and create these ideas and solutions TOGETHER.

nAfter the workshop, we had a networking time and shared a meal with people from the international patient association community. It is true that workshops held overseas can be challenging for people living with condition/conditions to attend, both psychologically and physically. There is also a language barrier. However, for those who are enthusiastic about advocacy and activism as people living with condition/conditions, connecting with like-minded individuals from different cultural backgrounds and sharing thoughts isn't as difficult as you might expect.

nParticipating in this summit gave me the opportunity for so much stimulation, learning, and connection that it is hard to put into one word. The key, I believe, is how to make the most of this opportunity in the future. We intend to make beneficial use of the ideas and connections generated at this event in our future activities at PPeCC.
